The charming River and Venice: from land and water 2017-06-20T16:52:09+00:00

Project Description

Approaching Venice slowly, starting from the Riviera del Brenta, called “the garden of Venice” during the 7th century.

Day 1,

Arrival at the Villa Alberti, an eighteenth-century villa with beautiful park, nestled on the banks of the canal.

The dinner of traditional Venetian dishes waiting for you in your Villa.

Day 2,

Morning: Excursion by bike with travel notebook along the Brenta River
The ancient waterway flows placid and shiny ripples, in a setting of villas and shady gardens that catch the eye. While riding safely in the fresh scent of grass cut on the banks, he chases you the quacking of ducks and the rhythmic sound of the wheels of the mill; savor the time, such as water, it flows slowly. The cycle route follows the course of the waterway and gets you in the center of Mira with its furniture and hydraulic closed bridges, to Dolo with the old mill and shipyard.
Free lunch.

Afternoon:Half-day excursion with a SlowVenice guide. A look at the city through the labyrinth of its streets and canals.

In a labyrinth like Venice there’s always something new – a view, a street, a stretch of waterfront – to discover. Follow us and explore the places where the tourists never venture, on routes that follow the rhythms of the city and its inhabitants, in search of the essence of Venice. Venice has over 100 islands and islets. And every one of them has streets, small squares and gardens waiting to be discovered, and some surprising plant life and fauna. Feel the invigorating salt air, watch the surface of the water as it ruffles in the changing winds, marvel at the ever-changing play of light and shade, walk streets paved with slabs of limestone and volcanic rock that evoke distant places.
Listen to the stories about art and ancient trades that take inspiration from street signs known locally as Nizioleti, which in the Venetian dialect means “little sheets”: white rectangles painted on the walls of houses and palaces with the names of the city’s streets, courtyards and canals. Experience the real Venice in the company of people who share your desire to dwell a little on the particulars of place, savour the atmosphere in an unhurried fashion, with the knowledgeable input of guides who have a story for every spot you visit. That’s the only way you’ll be able to say: “I slow Venice!”.
Free evening.

Day 3,

Free programme.

We recommend:

  • to visit the Venetian and historical Villas or a cruise along the river between Padua and Venice.
It is possible to visit Villa Foscarini Rossi, the first to be encountered on the road after the centre of Stra, and which was designed by Palladio; Villa Pisani, the most important, erected as a ducale residence and studded with frescoes including one by Tiepolo and with its famous maze in the vast gardens; Villa Widman at Mira; and finally, on the outskirts of Fusina, Villa Foscari, known as La Malcontenta, built according to a design by Palladio.
  • ‘Artisan for one hour’ Laboratory to discover the secrets of a Venetian art. An opportunity to discover Screen Printing, a printing technique that enables experimenting with colours and making a work of art reproducible, though still keeping its uniqueness.
Immersed in an archive with more than one thousand works of art printed from 1968 to these days, you’ll learn the secrets of screen printing and, with a frame and a squeegee blade in your hand, you’ll feel the experience of printing a one-colour graphic on a support to be chosen among cardboard, t-shirt or canvas bag, which you’ll take home as a souvenir of a creative, unusual and fascinating adventure.

The Riviera del Brenta connects Padua with the lagoon of Venice by 36 km of beautiful and unique countryside: a landscape which depicts art and culture, nature and history, reaching from Stra to Fusina.

The construction of a canal in this area began in the 16th century. The new waterway was a very important connections with Venice’s islands and th location where the Venetian nobility who, attracted to the countryside, built their beautiful houses. At first their agricultural settings gave them a functionality of design, though quickly they became transformed into luxurious residences, thus initiating the so-called ‘villa culture‘.

The best way to discover these wonderful architectures and their seductive atmosphere is moving by bike along the route that follows the river.
